A lot has been said about KPIs.We do need them though to measure performance. The trick is to pick the right ones and limit yourself to 3-5 per unit.No one unit can meaningfully work on more within a year anyway.Hopefully this handbook will give you a lot of inspiration. What are your favorite KPIs?

What would be much more useful would be a methodology to select the 5 KPIs you actually need to measure

What's the fastest way for finance professionals to become more impactful?Say it with visuals and here's why...Most people outside Finance don't think in numbers. They think in visuals. Most finance professionals know this, however, it doesn't translate into their management reports. They're still cluttered with numbers.Even if they use visuals they're then cluttered with visuals. It just doesn't facilitate a good discussion.Try this structure instead:1๏ธโฃ Start with the WHAT i.e., your answer2๏ธโฃ Explain the WHY i.e., the reasoning for your answer3๏ธโฃ Move on to the HOW i.e., the next steps4๏ธโฃ Have only ONE key message per slide5๏ธโฃ Use only ONE visual per slideAnd please choose the right visuals! Here are ten useful ways to visualize your data compliments of Sisense.Comment below "please review my management reporting" to get a free review and feedback for improvement (or send me a message). What does your management report look like?----------Learn more about the latest trends in finance and accounting by listening to the FinanceMasterPodcast here:https://bit.ly/3NLSt73Or download guides and cheat sheets about finance and accountinghere:https://lnkd.in/eC_zuCU4

The difference between Finance and Accounting in one picture...In Finance, anything can be adjusted to be made look good.In Accounting, standards have to be followed and there's an emphasis on accuracy. As ugly as the truth might be there's no running from it at the end of the day. This is why finance and accounting need to work closely together.Finance needs an accurate and updated view of company performance to devise plans to improve (not just to adjust).Accounting needs a solid understanding of what's happening in the business to produce high-quality numbers. When they work as one team, value creation across the company will be boosted. How are Finance and Accounting working together in your company?----------Learn more about the latest trends in finance and accounting by listening to the#FinanceMasterPodcast here:https://bit.ly/3NLSt73Or download guides and cheat sheets about finance and accountinghere:https://lnkd.in/eC_zuCU4

What's the purpose of Finance? To create value. It's that simple. What is value creation then?We defined that in chapter 3 of our book "Create Value as a Finance Business Partner".In simple terms, value creation for most companies is: Net Present Value of Cash Flow to Shareholders. This can be broken down into ten main value drivers:1. Growth2. Margins3. Tax4. Working capital5. Fixed assets6. Net interest rate7. Net interest bearing debt8. Operating risk9. Liquidity risk10. Financial riskEach of these drivers can be broken further down into details. The task of finance professionals is to work actively every day to improve one or more of these value drivers. You can learn how to do it in the book.Get it here: http://tiny.cc/ay3gvzWhat value drivers are you working on specifically to create value?----------๐ง๐ผ I'm a partner at Business Partnering Institute๐ Need immediate help in your finance team, call us!๐ค We help increase the influence of your finance team๐ To see more content ring the bell on my profile๐ป Find our #FinanceMaster podcast on your channel๐ Check out all our templates and cheat sheets here: https://lnkd.in/eC_zuCU4

Finance pros youโre speaking gibberish! At least thatโs what business leaders think. Shall we change that?A good place to start is beefing up our visuals. Why?Because many business people are visual people and not numbers people.Hereโs the catch though. Most still only have Excel to create visuals ๐ฑ.I see many management reports and continue to be surprised by how often they contain Excel charts. The least we can do is then to make better charts and visualizations in Excel.Hereโs a great guide to help you get betterโฆWhat tools are you using to create graphs, charts, and visualizations?----------Learn more about the latest trends in finance and accounting by listening to the FinanceMasterPodcast here:https://bit.ly/3NLSt73Or download guides and cheat sheets about finance and accountinghere:https://lnkd.in/eC_zuCU4

Can Finance solve business problems? Yes, by using this process...In Finance we get stuck analyzing the numbers. We fail to attach real business activities to the analysis. As a result, our analysis is shallow and without real insights. We need a different approach to break down complex issues. We shouldn't start by analyzing the numbers. We should start by understanding the business problem. We do that by breaking it down into its distinct parts.A great approach to use is "Root-cause analysis".Here you can apply the fishbone diagram analysis.Break the business problem into six specific areas. For each, identify the subcauses underlying the problem. Now it's time to start analyzing the numbers. Makes sense?Business problem -> Break it down -> Analyze the numbersSeek first to understand then to analyze the numbers!PS. What approach do you use to break down complex business issues?----------๐ง๐ผ I'm a partner at Business Partnering Institute๐ Need immediate help in your finance team, call us!๐ค We increase the influence of your finance team๐ To see more content, hit the bell on my profile๐ป Find our #FinanceMaster podcast on your channel๐ Check out all our templates and cheat sheets here: https://lnkd.in/eC_zuCU4

Most finance professionals analyze stuff to death and fail to have an impact.Great financial analysts recognize that it's about more than data and analysis though...They focus on three things:1๏ธโฃ Analytics2๏ธโฃ Presentation3๏ธโฃ Soft skillsSeems obvious right?Maybe it is but most finance professionals struggle with how to do it.They spend way too long analyzing the data.Their presentations are generally speaking a big mess. And they're oblivious to how to communicate their messages and influence decisions.CFI has put together a great extensive guide on how to become a great financial analyst......and we believe there's immense value for all finance professionals to dig into this content. What do you find is the best way to create impact with your analysis?----------Learn more about the latest trends in finance and accounting by listening to the FinanceMasterPodcast here:https://bit.ly/3NLSt73Or download guides and cheat sheets about finance and accountinghere:https://lnkd.in/eC_zuCU4
