When focusing on the main objectives, Pokemon Yellow is about 25 Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 40 Hoursto obtain 100% completion.
In Cerulean City a character named Melanie will give you a Bulbasaur for free as long as your Pikachu is happy enough and you have the space in your party. You can manage Pikachu’s happiness with items and proper care. Don’t forget, you can always trade for Bulbasaur if you find a willing friend.
Once you have obtained the Thunder Badge by beating Lt Surge at the Vermilion Gym, talk to Officer Jenny in the middle of town to get Squirtle. Her claim that Squirtle was getting into mischief is a reference to "The Squirtle Squad" where a team of Squirtle are the local nuisance.
- Go to the northern most tip of the nugget bridge, and walk to the grassy path next to the water. Be careful not to trigger the trainer battle there. You'll want to save before attempting, just to be safe, but the goal is to step in front of the trainer to trigger a battle, but open the start menu before the trainer's trigger is raised.
- If the trainer can see you and your menu is open without triggering the battle, you'll want to use teleport.
- From here, go northeast of nugget bridge where all of the trainers are staged on the way to Bill's house.
- Sticking to the northern side of the trail, you'll battle two trainers before arriving in front of a youngster:
- When triggering the battle with the youngster, give some space for the youngster to move from their initial position when the battle is triggered, as demonstrated above.
- After beating the youngster, immediately open your menu and teleport.
- Then, navigate back onto the nugget bridge, as you walk along the bridge, your menu will pop up.
- Close it, and it will trigger an encounter with Mew.

Two years after Red and Green, Nintendo released Pokémon Yellow, an enhanced version ofRedandBlue, in Japan in 1998, and in North America and Europe in 1999 and 2000, respectively.The game was designed to resemble thePokémonanime series, with the player receiving aPikachuas their starter Pokémon, and their rival starting with anEevee. Some non-player characters resemble those from the anime, includingTeam Rocket’s Jessie and James.
Pokémon Yellow changes and enhances several aspects of the original games. Pikachu is provided as the player’s only starter Pokémon and the character is given both a voice and a personality unique from other Pokémon. The character visually follows behind the player on the overworld, and the player can turn around and speak with it. Pikachu can grow to love or hate the player based on their actions; leveling up will keep Pikachu happy, while fainting frequently will make it unhappy.
This enhanced feature would be used again inPokémon HeartGold andSoulSilver, the remakes of Pokémon Gold andSilver, andPokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!andLet’s Go, Eevee!, the remakes of Pokémon Yellow. Yellowincludes a “Pikachu’s Beach” minigame that is only accessible to players who either won a Nintendo contest or complete a challenge in another game,Pokémon Stadium, and exchange data between the games using theTransfer Pak.
Yellowhas slightly improved graphics from its predecessors and can print Pokédex entries onto stickers using theGame Boy Printer. Pokémon Yellowwas developed byGame Freakand first began development after the completion of the Japanese-only version ofPokémon Blue, which itself followed the Japanese-only versions ofPokémon RedandGreen.
